The stock pot was cooking! Various alum-soaked papers and leaves were layered atop an old steamer basket and simmered for a couple hours. So many possibilities!

The concept of surprise is wonderful. this reminds me a little of when my mother-in-law would open her kiln, not knowing how the pieces were going to come out; how they’d look.
I still get this with paintings, or a play. I started a play and thought it was going in a certain direction. It’s not finished, but has taken a turn, and is much darker than I’d planned.

Shirley, one can only guess at what’s behind the darker direction in your play, but it must feel like you’re on a journey with an, as yet, obscure destination.
It seems that creating something with the outcome unknown encourages spontaneity – I have a tendency to overthink sometimes.
