It took much longer than anticipated, but several images from As Potent as a Charm are now available on notecards! The vertical format of the prints translated well onto letterbox cards. Envelopes were purchased at Hollo’s PaperCraft in Brunswick and cards were printed at COS Blueprint in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood. Individual cards and selected sets will initially be available at the Summit Artspace studio and Don Drumm’s Studio and Gallery.
Sad news and a sudden loss – and feeling bereft over the death of a friend and fellow artist. I’d like to think that today’s appearance of a bright orange bloom on the clivia is Chris saying that she’s still around. The surprise touch of color is surely her spirit attempting to brighten up this somber day.
Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick aka Corkscrew Hazel, Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’, shows off its snow-covered blooms.
Cultivated in herb gardens or cursed for its invasiveness, mint used in monotype printing adds a subtly refreshing scent to the studio. One such print is currently on display in the Artists of Rubber City Members Show.

Blue skies, spring in the air and Bernie Sanders in Akron, Ohio! Lucky for all of us waiting in line the temperatures were downright balmy for this time of year. Sanders’ campaign appearance, originally scheduled for Cleveland, was on short notice, but well worth attending. A succinct recap of the event is in The Devilstrip.
Big Love Akron 2016, a community celebration
This year’s event is its first at Summit Artspace with three floors of local music, art, food and much more!
After several months it’s time to play around with the slice of pear tree. The photo above, which links to a previous post, marked the end of a year of drying. The plan is to eventually carve into it for a relief print, but for now it is being used as the matrix for a monotype. Using colors and lines inspired by the artist, Hundertwasser, and Createx monotype ink, the print, Hundertwasser’s Cookie, was pulled on Rising Stonehenge paper. The process was a bit unwieldy, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Daylight hours are increasing noticeably, as evidenced by the brilliant blue sky, rather than darkness, on the way home from the studio. With evening’s approach the crows began to gather in the trees of Glendale Cemetery, and, odd as it may seem, the sight was magical!
